Finanssivalvonta (FIVA), or the Financial Supervisory Authority (FIN-FSA),
is the new authority for supervision of Finland’s financial and insurance sectors and, from 1 January 2009, responsible for most of the supervisory functions previously undertaken by the Financial Supervision Authority and the Insurance Supervisory Authority.

Effective from July 1, 1995
This Act is applied to insurance of the person and non-life insurance.
This Act does not cover statutory insurance or reinsurance, but insurance policies written under the Motor Liability Insurance Act (279/59), the Patient Injuries
Act (585/86) and the Environmental Impairment Liability Insurance Act (81/1998) are governed by this Act, unless otherwise provided in the two acts (82/1998).
